How to Get a Ticket

High-speed train tickets from Hong Kong to Changsha and back can be bought online and offline. Passengers' passports or travel permits are required when purchasing tickets online or offline.

First class seats on Hong Kong to Changnsha high-speed trains

• Online: via a travel agency like China Highlights, on China Railway's official website, and on MTR's website
• Offline: at a local train station or ticket office

Booking train tickets online in advance is much more convenient and is recommended. Due to the differences between China Railway and Hong Kong's railway system, high-speed trains to and from Hong Kong have different ticket collecting policies.

There are two ways to get your paper tickets:

1. Your tickets can be delivered to you: Your tickets will be waiting for you at your hotel or address in China. It will save you a lot of time that would otherwise be spent queuing in line if collecting your tickets at a train station.

2. Collect your paper tickets at the train station:

• For bookings with an MRT collection number: Your tickets can only be collected at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. Please arrive at the station at least 45 minutes in advance to collect your tickets.
• For bookings with China Rail's collection number: Your tickets can be collected at any train station in mainland China or at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. There is no extra cost for collection if you go to a train station in mainland China to pick up your tickets. If you collect your tickets at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, an extra cost of 10–30 HKD per ticket will be charged.

Hong Kong to Changsha via a Transfer in Guangzhou

There are more high-speed train options if you transfer at Guangzhou South for your train journey between Hong Kong and Changsha.

1. Hong Kong to Guangzhou: More than 30 daily high-speed trains operate between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, with an average time interval of 30 minutes.

2. Guangzhou to Changsha: There are 105 daily high-speed trains operating between Guangzhou South and Changsha South.

3. The total travel time is basically the same as taking a direct train from Hong Kong to Changsha.
