Hong Kong – Chengdu High-Speed Trains

Currently, there are no direct trains operating for passengers to travel between Hong Kong and Chengdu. Taking a flight is the main mode of transportation between these two cities.

However, after the opening of the Guangzhou – Shenzhen – Hong Kong Express Rail Link, it is now possible to take high-speed trains between Hong Kong and Chengdu by making a transfer at Guangzhou.

There are more than 30 daily bullet trains running between Hong Kong and Guangzhou as well as 9 bullet trains and 4 ordinary overnight trains traveling between Guangzhou and Chengdu.

Please note:

High-speed trains from Hong Kong to Guangzhou arrive at the high-speed train station of Guangzhou South Railway Station (广州南). High-speed trains from Guangzhou to Chengdu depart from Guangzhou Railway Station (广州站) and Guangzhou South Railway Station.

These two stations are a long way from each other so be sure to choose trains that depart from Guangzhou South Railway Station so that you don't need to change a station for the transfer.

Other Means of Transportation from Hong Kong to Chengdu

1. Take a bullet train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou South, then an overnight train from Guangzhou to Chengdu. Overnight trains originate/end at Guangzhou Railway Station and Chengdu Railway Station, both are centrally located. The overnight train journey from Guangzhou to Chengdu takes about 30 hours. A hard sleeper ticket costs US$61, and a soft sleeper ticket costs US$109.

2. Take a bullet train from Hong Kong to Shenzhen North, then an overnight train from Shenzhen to Chengdu. Shenzhen – Chengdu overnight trains are terminated at the centrally located stations of Shenzhen and Chengdu, with a travel time of 30 to 40 hours. Hard sleepers are US$64 per ticket and soft sleepers are US$105 per ticket.

3. Travel from Hong Kong to Chengdu by air. It is the fastest and most convenient form of transportation between these two cities. The air fare is US$220 – 290 per ticket. The travel time is only 3 hours.

4. You can also take a bullet train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, then take a flight to Chengdu. The flight takes about 3 hours. The Guangzhou to Chengdu air fare is US$88 per ticket. But this option requires a transfer from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, which are connected by Metro Line 2 and Line 3.
